More than 2,400 Pathfinders gathered together in Rome for the Euro-Africa Division Camporee during the week of August 1-8, 2011.
The theme of the camporee was “Faith Adventure, Walking with Paul,” based on the four journeys of Paul. The mission statement for the camporee was “To accept the challenge by following Paul’s life to enjoy new ways of being winners with Jesus.” The goals of the camporee included helping Pathfinders to keep the faith, to finish the “race,” to rejoice in the Lord, and to share their hope in the second coming of Jesus.
One of the highlights, and a new feature for the Euro-Africa camporee, were plays that were performed in the evening and which reenacted Paul’s journeys. After each play, Jonatan Tejel, the World Pathfinder Director, preached on the theme of the night.
Another highlight was a special place in the camp called the “Oasis” where Pathfinders could spend some quiet time in prayer and reflection.
Division youth director’s Paul Tompkins and Gennady Kasap attended the camporee, representing their respective fields in the TED and ESD.
The camporee was closed with a very special baptismal ceremony during which ten Pathfinders publically gave their lives to the Lord and were prayed over by Pastor Tejel.
